A notary public is a state-appointed official who verifies the identity of signers, witnesses the signing of documents, and administers oaths to prevent fraud. In addition, a notary verifies your identity, ensures you’re signing documents willingly, and checks that you’re aware of what you’re signing—followed by an official stamp or seal.
